Four Houses

Four days into our Founders’ Fundraising Campaign, we consider the four houses that make up the House System at Chesterton Academies around the world.

THE HOUSE SYSTEM

The house system draws on years of academic history and tradition. House systems have found their place at universities and institutions of education for centuries as places to cultivate community and instill a sense of belonging in those from different walks of life who have joined together to work and study.

The four houses that make up the Chesterton House System are named after their patrons, the four saints who support the chair of Peter in St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome. The houses exist to “provide real, tangible community within the larger school, giving students the opportunity to take ownership, fulfill the call to leadership, and to cultivate the ideal conditions for virtue” (read more here).

HOUSE OF AUGUSTINE

Named after the great philosopher and theologian, those in this house call to mind Augustine’s intellectual feats and zeal.

HOUSE OF AMBROSE

Named after the teacher of Augustine, those in this house call to mind the charisma and courage of this bishop.

HOUSE OF ATHANASIUS

Named after the patriarch of Alexendria, those in this house call to mind Athanasius’s staunch defense of the faith in the presence of heresy.

HOUSE OF CHRYSOSTOM

Named after the great preacher and liturgist, those in this house call to mind Chrysostom’s asceticism and sermons.
